FAQ's

What is TriWest?

TriWest Healthcare Alliance helps connect eligible veterans with approved community care providers when care is authorized through the VA. This allows veterans to receive certain services from local providers outside of a VA facility.

Do I need a VA referral before scheduling?

Yes. Veterans typically need a VA-approved referral or authorization before scheduling community care through TriWest. The VA notes that veterans must receive a referral from their VA health care team before scheduling with a non-VA community provider.

Can I choose Shoar Chiropractic & Acupuncture as my provider?

Eligible veterans may ask their VA health care team about being referred to Shoar Chiropractic & Acupuncture for approved community care. Once authorization is approved, our office can help you schedule your appointment.

What should I do after I receive my authorization?

After you receive authorization, call our office to schedule your visit. Your authorization letter usually includes important details such as the approved provider, approved services, authorization number, and how long your care is authorized.

What services may be available through TriWest?

Authorized services may vary based on your referral and care plan. At Shoar Chiropractic & Acupuncture, veteran care may include chiropractic care, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, spinal decompression, rehabilitation exercises, electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy, mechanical traction, and other supportive treatments when approved.

Will TriWest cover all of my visits?

Coverage depends on your VA-approved authorization. Your authorization may include a specific number of visits, approved services, and a timeframe for care. The VA recommends keeping track of your appointments and referral details because services outside the authorization may not be covered.

What if I need more visits or additional care?

If you need additional care beyond what was approved, a new or extended referral may be required. VA community care guidance explains that additional care may need to be requested when services go beyond the original authorization.

Who do I call if I have questions about my TriWest authorization?

You can contact your VA care team or TriWest for questions about your authorization. You can also call Shoar Chiropractic & Acupuncture, and our team can help guide you through the next steps for scheduling approved care.
